Today we welcomed schools from Falinge Park High School, Abraham Moss Community School, The East Manchester Academy and Hathershawe College as we hosted the second annual *Endangered Crafts Day event – a wonderful collaboration between the North West Comino Consortium and Heritage Crafts to introduce and inspire a young generation to traditional craft skills and the importance of maintaining these crafts within an ever-evolving digital world.

During the day, learners from all schools enjoyed interactive workshop sessions from four experts who demonstrated the skills involved in each of their heritage crafts and allowed learners to engage in practical hands-on activities in their chosen workshops. This also hopefully inspired our young people about the possibilities of a craft career, in addition to the benefits of integrating such activities into their personal hobbies and interests. Staff were also invited to participate in the workshops in their afternoon CPL session! Take a look at some of the wonderful images from the day.

*Endangered crafts are traditional craft skills which have been researched and ranked as those deemed unlikely to survive the next generation. In 2025 Heritage Crafts published its latest edition of ‘The Red List of Endangered Crafts’. To find out more, please click here (we feature on page 49!).

Thank you to the Comino Foundation and Heritage Crafts for creating this wonderful event, and to guest craftspeople Ella McIntosh, Karen Redmayne, Jessamy Wright and Richard Wheater for providing such interesting and engaging workshops for our learners and all students involved.
We would also like to thank local business Bolton Gazebo Hire for kindly loaning our school the use of their gazebos for yet another year and their amazing support with the arrangements; the gazebos staged the workshops beautifully!
