Work Experience

Work experience will take place for Year 10 learners from Monday 3rd to Friday 7th June 2024.  This is an exciting week where learners will have the opportunity to get a real insight into life after school and can really help them to decide which career they may want to pursue after leaving school.

All learners have the opportunity to arrange a placement for themselves.  All placements have to be checked and agreed by both the school and Our Futures – an external company who help us to organise work experience.

For all placements the business must have Employers Liability Insurance in place.  By law, we are not able to send any learners on work experience placements where this isn’t in place, even if this is with parents or family members.

Information video for Learners and Parents:

What do I need to do?

Step 1 – Online Parental Consent

Parents will need to complete the online consent form by Friday 15th December 2023.  All parents have been emailed a copy of the information to do this.

Step 2 – Finding A Placement

Learners & Parents – Find a business that you are interested in going to for your placement.  Call them or go and speak to them to see if they are willing to help you.  The business will need to complete an online consent form.   You will need to share the postcard with your employer that you have been given by your form teacher so that they can confirm the placement.

Step 3 – Check your placement has been approved

Learners and parents – Login to Our Futures – https://www.ourfutures.co.uk/login/ to check whether your placement has passed health and safety/insurance checks.

Step 4 – Make contact with your employer

Learners – Nearer to the time of the placement, you will need to contact your employer to check they are still okay to have you.  You will also need to ask the following questions:

  • What time should I arrive?
  • Do I need any special equipment?
  • What should I wear?
  • Do I need to bring lunch?
  • What time will I finish?

If you need help…

  1. Speak to your family – Are there any family friends/colleagues who could offer you a placement?
  1. Sign up to come down to the Hub on a Community Wednesday during form time to get some 1-1 advice.

Email workexperience@ladybridgehigh.co.uk, or see Mr Ainscough if you have any questions.
