Our Sport and Health curriculum aims to develop physically confident, healthy, and resilient learners who achieve success through participation in a diverse range of sporting activities. Grounded in the principles of the Trivium, the curriculum supports learners in building strong fundamental movement skills, a deep understanding of rules, tactics, and leadership, while also fostering physical fitness and self-regulation.

Throughout all year groups, learners engage in a variety of physical activities that challenge them physically, mentally, and socially. They explore key concepts such as spatial awareness, positioning, and the vital importance of teamwork and communication. Signature projects, including the Year 9 “Can Bolton Become a Blue Zone?” connect classroom learning with real-world health challenges, encouraging the development of lifelong healthy habits.

Assessment Overview:
At Key Stage 3, learners are assessed in each sport against the seven key concepts using iDoceo and are encouraged to self-assess and develop both core and advanced skills across a broad range of sports.
At Key Stage 4, students follow the OCR Sport Studies qualification, with assessment focused on both practical performance and the theoretical understanding of sport and outdoor adventurous activities. Ongoing assessments ensure continuous progress and skill development through coursework and exam units.

Our curriculum is further enriched by opportunities for extracurricular sport participation, leadership roles, and community projects, all of which support the growth of character and leadership qualities aligned with the Ladybridge WISDOM values.

A key long-term goal beyond the curriculum is for learners to leave school equipped to lead healthy and happy lives well beyond the school gates.
