A group of Year 9 learners spent an immersive two day work experience event in the world of marketing and advertising at the Manchester headquarters of global advertising agency McCann. Experts in content creation, digital media, strategy, photography and business & account management provided an overview of their roles and the career opportunities available in the industry. Learners were also provided with a tour of the company’s CRAFT studio, which includes video, dedicated 360 product stations, two home economy kitchens and two daylight studios to deliver high quality assets and video content.

Along with other local schools, learners were provided with the brief for a campaign; to re-market a well know British biscuit brand for a specified target market, whilst retaining the brand’s heritage and humorous appeal. The group would then pitch their campaign to senior executives in a competition at the end of the project. Mentors provided tips on effective social media strategies and guidance on presentation techniques for an advertising campaign to be successful.
Our learners developed a wonderfully creative plan, reflecting their chosen school ‘superpower’ of diversity and displayed great curiosity and commitment to the pitch. Each learner played their own essential role in the project but also demonstrated great teamwork when formulating their final plans for the presentation.

The presentation was informative and humorous and the questions received from the panel were answered with confidence and assurance. Following the panel’s deliberations, Ladybridge were awarded second place for their campaign, a fantastic achievement among strong competition from the other schools.

Well done to our learners who represented our school so beautifully and many thanks to the Comino Foundation for providing a wonderful experience that we are sure our learners will remember.
