The Bishop of Manchester, Nigel McCulloch, recently took a journey around the churches in Greater Manchester in an act of community encouragement and, while in this area, asked to visit Ladybridge High School where he spoke to a some of our Student Ambassadors and a group from the Parents’ Forum.
After his arrival and refreshments, he asked numerous questions about the school and showed particular interest in our Student Voice activities. The bishop praised the school’s communication methods and its originality in valuing the opinions of students so strongly as to use Student Ambassadors on interview panels for staff jobs. He explained, ‘I don’t think I’ve ever come across something like this before... it’s great for the students to have the ability to make such changes within their school’.
He was also very impressed with the work of the Parents’ Forum, which is working very closely with staff at the school to ensure that Ladybridge goes from strength to strength.
Bishop Nigel left Ladybridge with a very high regard for our school. He was very pleased; not that he had created a sense of community spirit within Ladybridge , but that he had found a community spirit within Ladybridge. He left us with his profound encouragement to both parents and students.

Student Ambassador Interview Team
We have trained several students in each year group to work on the Student Ambassador Interview Team. They interview all the candidates for positions in the school. As part of the process, they look at the job specifications and design suitable questions for the interview. At the end of the process, the Team report back their findings to the Formal Interview Panel and their opinions form an equal part of the decision-making process. We value our Student Ambassador Interview Team very highly.
