Rights and Responsibilities
At Ladybridge High School we believe everyone should benefit from having their rights met and they should understand the responsibilities that come with having rights. Our rules of Fair Play clearly outline what this means. Rules of Fair Play
UNICEF have outlined 42 articles on the rights and responsibilities for every child. These form the base of our values and practices at school. UNICEF rights and responsibilities.

The article below was written by one of our ex students, and was published in the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust’s North West Regional Magazine as an example of excellent practice.
We believe that we must always keep listening and learning and we really do value the thoughts of all our learners at Ladybridge High School.
My name is Jaycee and I’ve been here since Ladybridge High began, in fact I was here when Ladybridge was Deane and now, sadly, I’ve left. The difference between Deane and Ladybridge is immense; we have gone from strength to strength and we are improving all the time and that’s due to the fact that this school, the Senior Leadership Team, have been working endlessly to improve Ladybridge High. The SLT listens to all of our views and take action regarding what they are to better Ladybridge even if it’s something as simple as lockers, because small changes make a big difference.
As you can tell, student voice is a high priority here at Ladybridge High and, by listening to student voice; this school is able to move forward to achieve deep relationships between staff and students. The result of student voice being listened to means that there is now a mutual respect between staff and students that wasn’t there before. This improves the atmosphere of the school and contributes to a more productive learning environment which can only be beneficial to us. Through listening to student voice the school is able to develop deep support for every pupil at Ladybridge High. W.H Auden once wrote “How do I know what I think until I’ve heard what I’ve said” and this is utterly correct. Talking things through gives clarity which allows us as a school to know what we need to work towards and what we still need to improve to make this school the best that it can be.
As this school strives to be the best, I have been involved more and more, participating in interviews upon interviews to select new staff for positions at our school who share our ambitions and dreams. I have been involved in governor meetings and though this may not seem extraordinary, it has allowed our school to come on in leaps and bounds because rather than staff and governors taking a wild stab in the dark at what we need, they have a direct source to what could be advantageous for us at school. Even times when I’m casually walking down the corridor having a laugh with my friends, Mrs D’Arcy is showing people around the school and, more than once, my friends and I have done “off the cuff interviews” with people such as the Director of Children’s Services and the Assistant Director of Children’s Services. Even they have commented on what a magnificent school this is. This is because the school cares about the students and the students are listened to through a range of different ways, such as questionnaires.
You don’t have to wait until you’re asked for your view, however, because every teacher has an open door policy and, if you want something changing you can go to any member of staff and they’ll see that your view is put into consideration. This is brilliant! Views such as the house system being changed are being put into effect as we helped to construct the new pastoral system from vertical to horizontal.
Though I have said how great the school is becoming, we are always working to be better because you can never be too good when education is involved. Mrs D’Arcy and her team recognise this and are always tirelessly working to make us feel like we are appreciated and listened to.
