General Election

Yesterday Ladybridge held their very own mock election. This was a parallel election, run alongside the General Election. Students have been looking at the manifestos from political parties and watching videos sent in by some of our local candidates in the run up to the election.

To be eligible to vote, students have had to put their name on the electoral register and turn up today to vote.

Amirah, Sumaya, Asmaa and Ayesha in Year 8 ran our polling station and made sure that the process was fair.

Our learners have been very excited by the opportunity to take part in a mock election here at Ladybridge.  We have been overwhelmed by the numbers of young people who have registered to vote and grasped the chance take part in a simulation of democracy in action.  Spontaneous, passionate last minute campaigning by our learners has taken us by surprise!  Helping our learners to be good citizens is a key part of our mission; the engagement with the election is a further demonstration of this.
