KS3 Reading Mentoring Project

Every Tuesday and Thursday, Year 9s and 10s meet with year 7s in the canteen to read. We volunteered to read with them because their reading levels are a little below what is expected of them for their age. The aim of the reading programme is to improve the mentees’ reading levels and also to encourage them to read more at home to benefit their school work. Also, it helps the mentors take on a teaching role which could help us if we decide to follow a teaching career. In addition, when applying to colleges, being a reading mentor could benefit us as it shows people that we are doing something extra to help others as well as ourselves.
